GEOTHERMICA Initiative
Membership in the GEOTHERMICA Initiative is exclusively open to public authorities, both regional and national, to avoid conflicts of interest. Each member organization appoints one or more delegates, and multiple organizations from the same country are welcome. The GEOTHERMICA Initiative (GI) has a Cabinet Chair representing the organization. Transforming collaboration in geothermal energy research and innovation
In 2012, partners laid the groundwork for enduring collaboration within the GEOTHERMAL ERA-NET, supported by the 7th Framework Programme (FP7). This initiative evolved and expanded under GEOTHERMICA Horizon 2020, solidifying its role as a central pillar in strengthening the European geothermal sector.
The GEOTHERMICA Horizon 2020 project concluded in 2022, having brought together 20 geothermal energy research and innovation program owners and managers from 16 countries. These partners are committed to ensuring secure, sustainable, competitive, and affordable energy for their citizens and economies by supporting research and innovation in geothermal energy.
In 2023, the GEOTHERMICA co-funded Horizon 2020 project transitioned into the GEOTHERMICA Initiative. This new phase of cooperation began with seven public authorities from six different countries, marking a fresh chapter in our mission.
